An Exciting Few Days!

Myself, my beautiful Sister Sarah and her Boyfriend Matt had a fantastic trip to London.

When the three of us are let loose together we are a nightmare! The day started with mucking around on the tube and taking random pictures of Matt!

We arrived at our hotel and had 3 hours to get ready and that's just how long it took me. I must have used a whole can of V05 stronghold hairspray on my hair and it still ended up flat!! I was not impressed.

However I was in love with the make-up I chose to wear but I will go into that later.

We arrived at The o2 arena very excited and couldn't wait for Miss Rihanna or RiRi as Matt likes to call her to grace us with her presence. The night started with Tiny Temper and apart from his song Passout I was rather bored. So bored that I started taking pictures of my make-up haha.

The pictures of my eye make-up did not really come out well due to our ever so crappy camera and the dark setting so I will do a remake of the look as it did look beautiful in person.

I was mortified when I looked at the pictures and saw some lovely little dark hairs regrowing on my brows and the little grey hairs regrowing on my head!

I used all yaby paints for the eye look because I know that once they are on they just don't budge, some Miss Sporty waterproof mascara which I am not a fan of at all but had no choice as my Dior Show was left behind by accident.

I will do a complete look using the same colors over the next week so you can see the make-up in its full glory.

Back to Rihanna I cant say any more than that girl has a set of lungs on her she was fantastic and totally worth the trip. We had quite a good view and unlike other shows we have been to at the o2 she did have screens.
Our trip ended the following day with the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street we were a little late to see it so as we arrived Freddy appeared unexpectedly on the screen and I am shamed to say I did scream which made the whole room errupt with laughter!

The film itself IMO was brilliant they kept it mostly the same as the original with just an updated cast and I really enjoyed it. The SFX were also brilliant and so far advanced from the original as you can imagine.

So that's my waffle for today I hope I didn't bore you to much :)

Follow Up On The Bundle Box Service

OK so I did a little more research after the last post as the lovely Louise made a comment saying that Sarah from I Heart Cosmetics had a really bad experience with BundleBox.

I personally have used the service twice and had a good experience so far!

I will continue to update this post as and when I find or receive more reviews from you lovely people!

Below is the first review I have found this review is very thorough and is by the lovely Dazzledust25

What I will say regarding the above posts is that these were done a little while ago and by viewing the video above and from my personal experiences things do see to have got better with the site.

Things to Remember if you are considering using BB:

1. Use the shipping estimator to estimate your shipping first so you know what to expect
2. Ask BB to repack as this seems to lessen the shipping costs as some companies use unnecessary packaging
3. Think about splitting your orders with others to share the costs.

With all services there are people that have great experiences and people that have bad ones and it is for you to make an inform decision as to weather you want to try the service.

Great Service For Getting Products From USA Easier!

Hi All

I was helping Lilbiuty as she really wanted some stuff from a well know Cosmetics company as their US site has more choice of colors than we do here.

I thought it only right that I let you know how to do it so here goes:

Register with Bundlebox they will provide you with your own US address there are no subscription fees however, you will pay for shipping from you US address to the UK and a small fee.

If your card is not accepted due to it being a UK card they can pay for the items for you for which they also charge a fee.

My advice to Lilbiuty and to you is to club together with other wanting products from the same company and then split all of the costs which will make this cheaper for you.

I hope this has helped you out.

TTFN x

Please note this is based on my personal experience with the company as I have used them a few times and had no issuebut it has come to light that other people have had issues!

FOTD

The lovely Vicky my little sisters friend agreed to be a part of the blog and allow me to give her a make-over.

Our Vicky regularly wears foundation which as I scream at her is too dark for her very fair skin and thick black eyeliner like Amy Winehouse.

Vicky has problematic skin and never goes without her make-up so I wanted to create a more natural everyday look for her.

For this look I used:

Face:
Smashbox Primer
Chanel Vitalumiere number 10
Yaby blush BL015
Yaby Cream Concealer in buff

Eyes and Brows:
Yaby Pearl Paint - PP040 Cappucino, PP080 First Snow and PP048 Chocolate Smoothie
Smashbox Brow Tech in Brunette
Benefit Bad Gal Mascara
Benefit Brow Set in Dark

Lips:
Mac Tinted Lip Conditioner (shade to be confirmed)

In person the end result is not quite as strong but I do have a crappy camera!

I went for a very natural smokey eye to bring out Vicky's beautiful green eyes.

I hope you like it as much as Vicky did :)

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar Review!

So I thought I would have a play with a Tar that I have yet to use!

Tarred is the color and as you have probably read elsewhere you don't need a lot.

The picture on the left is an example of what happens when you apply to much!

When too much is applied the color feathers into the fine lines around the mouth.

On the right is the Tar applied using just the right amount a little less than a pea size.

What I noticed with this particular color is that you can still see the natural lip color underneath so it does not give full coverage. I will do a full look at some stage and experiment with different applications of the product.

The smell is devine you can definitely pick up on the peppermint. Both models stated that it felt refreshing on their lips.

When it came to removing the product both models stated that it came off with ease when rubbing it off with a little tissue and then going over the lip area with some luke warm water.

Where to buy:

Australia and Asia Makeup and Glow

My Favorite Kit Items Part 1....

I get asked a lot when I am working what my favorite products are from my kit so I thought I would share with you all what these are.
The Primer of all Primers:
I got into Smashbox long before it was available here so I ordered myself some tester size primers to try it out and I was hooked.

The primer goes on like butter it does feel a bit like watered down vaseline but without the grease. When applied to the face it leaves the skin smooth and ready to apply your foundation and concealer.

This primer has quite a matte finish.

I love this product so much because it minimizes the need to retouch on shoots and is a brides best friend.

Smashbox do an array of primers from their best seller Photo Finish (my fav) to bronzing and corrective primers.

Smashbox can be purchased in the UK from Debenhams and Just Beauty Direct

Foundation:
I do love me some MAC Face and Body. F+B is a great product for the natural look and its water based so none of those awful oils clogging up your pores.(I don't use it on myself but that is a whole new post!)

F+B is very thin however this does not mean that you cant build up great coverage because you can.

The only downside with F+B is that it goes off quite quickly unless like me you keep it in the fridge!

To buy or locate a store near you visit www.maccosmetics.com

The Ultimate Concealer:
Yaby concealers are the bomb!

They give a full coverage without looking cakey and once they are on they do not budge for something so small they go along way.

These little babies are even water proof which is always a bonus.

Shameless plug: These can be purchased at The Make-up Artist Boutique :) or direct from yaby

So thats part one! more to come soon x

Lack of Posting...

So, its been a while since I posted.....

The last month has been very manic I started working on a charity calendar for St Barnabas Hospice in Worthing. The money generated from the sales will go towards building one of the purpose built blocks at the new St Barnabas Hospice.

I took the project on because my father in law was loosing his battle with cancer and after talking with him about it he really wanted me to do it and said that it would make him very proud.

A couple of dates in my father in law sadly lost his fight and passed away with all of his family around him.

Going back to shooting was hard but I had to see the project through because this is what he would have wanted.

The calendar wraps this Thursday and i have to say it has been an amazing project to have been a part of.

Behind the seens pictures will be added soon in the meantime visit www.worthingcalendar.co.uk and pre-order your copy!

Where did I train

So I get asked all the time where I trained so I thought I would share.

I was very lucky that The Princes Trust paid for me to do a home course through ICS. The ICS course was a great starting point and unlike alot of the private schools you do actually get a qualification at the end.

The downside is that you are training yourself and unless you already have some creative flair this may just be a waste of money.

At the time the course cost £500.00 which I completed within 8 months whilst working full time. Once I had finished the course I did some assisting and watched alot of videos by Sam and Nicola Chapman and the artists at Smashbox.

I am now working full time in the Industry aswell as running The Make-up Artist Boutique with my mum Kathy. I do not for one moment think I am at the top of my game as the art of Make-up evolves every day and I do plan on doing further course's to ensure I evolve with it.

About Me

Hi I am Emma and welcome to my blog.

This blog will be a compilation of useful tips, advice and reviews I have picked up on my journey to becoming a makeup artist. I started this blog because I get lots of emails from young girls wanting to work in the industry and they ask for advice on how to move forward.

The internet is a great source of information you would not believe how many Make-up Artists use the internet to research products, looks, tools books etc

I started my journey back in 2003 I was in a car accident which resulted in me losing my full time job. During the 4 years that followed I appeared on Channel 4's the Salon as one of their Make-over clients and got the chance to have my make-up done by Yvette Redmond. Having my make-up done by Yvette spurred me on to train and become a make-up artist myself.

I have been qualified for nearly 3 years and just like every working artist my portfolio is a constant work in progress. I do not profess to be at the top of my game but hopefully through the years you will see me progress and I certainly don’t claim to be an authority on all things beauty so please chip in with your comments good, bad and just plain UGLY!
Below is a selection of my work to date and more can be seen at www.emma-north.co.uk : TMPKPDPFZRFH
